OVER $67M WON BY JAMAICANS WHO WERE JUST ONE NUMBER FROM WINNING THE SUPER LOTTO JACKPOT

Kingston, Jamaica: Monday December 16, 2013

Over 160 Jamaicans have won million of dollars this year, by catching Match 5 while playing Super Lotto. Although these players missed the Super Lotto jackpot by only one number, Jamaicans were still able to take home handsome cash prize winnings for this subsidiary prize tier in the game.

“The money won has been well received!” remarked Sonia Davidson, Supreme Ventures’ Vice President of Group Corporate Communications. “We have heard so many positive stories from a variety of persons from across the island: their dreams of paying down on their own home, providing their children with educational opportunities, improving their business and planning for retirement, were some of the ways people said they would be investing their winnings. It is so rewarding to see people hopeful that their future is brighter than they previously imagined. There were a number of people who were only one number away from winning the Super Lotto jackpot—one number! if people keep on playing they could win the jackpot next time around.”

Since the game’s inception in 2009, Caribbean players have won over $3.9 Billion. These countries include Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, Anguilla, Antigua, St. Maarten, the Dominican Republic and Barbados. During this time, over 500 Jamaicans missed the Super Lotto Jackpot by just one number but won over $67 Million.

“As tough as times are, I always find the money for a weekly Super Lotto ticket,” noted Alicea Jackson. “Even if I only catch two or three numbers I am thankful, because that is money I didn’t have before. It’s a good thing to keep on playing, because you never know, you could just win that big big jackpot one day.”

Oshaine Laylor offered similar comments, “I am taking classes and working at the same time. Sometimes it’s rough making ends meet, so I’m grateful for even the smallest payout—trust me it does make a difference.”

The Super Lotto draw can be viewed every Tuesday and Friday at 8:30pm on TVJ. The live audio feed is also carried on IRIE FM.

SANTA (Seeing a Need Taking Action) will for the 13th consecutive year smile upon some needy organisations in Jamaica.

The annual charity golf tournament, named after Saint Nicholas, is expected to raise in excess of $1.5 million, money that will make Christmas a bit more jolly for a number of people, many being children.
The SANTA Golf Tournament will be staged at the Constant Spring Golf Club on Sunday, December 15 starting at 6:45 a.m.

Participants will be separated into four categories: men and women, who are required to pay $10,000 to register; juniors (18 holes), juniors (nine holes) and juniors (five holes) and they are asked to contribute $6,000, $4,000 and $2,500, respectively, to compete.

The proceeds from the SANTA Golf Tourney will this year go towards four charities, which were chosen by the sponsors. These are the Wortley Home, Laws Street Trade Training Centre, Mustard Seed and Food For The Poor.

"We can accommodate up to 144 adults and approximately 30 juniors," David Mais, tournament director, revealed during yesterday's press launch as the Constant Spring Golf Club. "The juniors will tee off at 1:30 p.m., with some playing 18 holes and some nine, while the younger kids will play five holes. Between 6:45 a.m. and as late as 1:25 p.m., adults tee off.

Available spots

"As of today, we have almost 100 persons already registered for SANTA, so only about 12 more spots are available, so if you don't get in the next couple of days, you are going to be a spectator."
Digicel is the lead sponsor of the chipping and putting contest, which will be held on Friday, December 13 at Constant Spring.

"We want to exceed $1.5m; we are short of our target of $2.5m, but we have another couple of days to go, so we hope that we get a few more sponsors on board so we can attain our target," Nigel Davy, chairman of the 2013 SANTA organising committee and president elect of the Constant Spring Golf Club, shared.
Title sponsor, CB Facey Foundation, has stepped up to the plate in a major way, as through their pledge programme, they will provide additional opportunities for players, spectators and corporate entities to contribute on an ongoing basis.

"We are thrilled to announce our decision to match each cash donation, dollar for dollar up to $1m," chairman of CB Facey Foundation, Stephen Facey, announced. "So on behalf of Pan Jamaican Investments, we invite you ... to pick up a pledge form and support this powerful colla-boration of private-sector entities and charitable foundations."

Telecommunications provider Digicel has hired and trained 200 additional agents for its customer care call centre in an effort to enhance the delivery of customer service.

In a release, Digicel said those agents had to pass through a rigorous and extensive training programme before they began to interface with customers.

“To further underscore its commitment to providing superior service, Digicel has also invested some J$200 million in an Avaya Contact Centre Solution,” the release said.

“This is a fully integrated customer contact management system that incorporates forecasting, scheduling and quality monitoring with 100 per cent voice recording of agent/customer interaction,” it added.

The equipment will allow the company to analyse customer query trends and resolve them in a timely manner.

According to newly-appointed Customer Care Director, Dwayne Tulloch “the implementation of this system is part of our wider customer service improvement strategy that has no doubt helped us to achieve a marketing leading customer resolution rate.”

He added that “we continue to see a significant uptake in our data packages and our data-enabled handsets as more and more customers are becoming tech-smart.”

He added that inbound calls to Digicel’s customer care centre have increased significantly over the past year.

The release said the company is also investing in a number of other training initiatives, such as a company-wide customer service training programme for all its employees as well as the rollout out of a ‘Set Up Smart” programme across its dealer channel.
