SANTA to bring Christmas cheer to four charities

SANTA (Seeing a Need Taking Action) will for the 13th consecutive year smile upon some needy organisations in Jamaica. 

The annual charity golf tournament, named after Saint Nicholas, is expected to raise in excess of $1.5 million, money that will make Christmas a bit more jolly for a number of people, many being children.
The SANTA Golf Tournament will be staged at the Constant Spring Golf Club on Sunday, December 15 starting at 6:45 a.m.

Participants will be separated into four categories: men and women, who are required to pay $10,000 to register; juniors (18 holes), juniors (nine holes) and juniors (five holes) and they are asked to contribute $6,000, $4,000 and $2,500, respectively, to compete.

The proceeds from the SANTA Golf Tourney will this year go towards four charities, which were chosen by the sponsors. These are the Wortley Home, Laws Street Trade Training Centre, Mustard Seed and Food For The Poor.

"We can accommodate up to 144 adults and approximately 30 juniors," David Mais, tournament director, revealed during yesterday's press launch as the Constant Spring Golf Club. "The juniors will tee off at 1:30 p.m., with some playing 18 holes and some nine, while the younger kids will play five holes. Between 6:45 a.m. and as late as 1:25 p.m., adults tee off.

"As of today, we have almost 100 persons already registered for SANTA, so only about 12 more spots are available, so if you don't get in the next couple of days, you are going to be a spectator."
Digicel is the lead sponsor of the chipping and putting contest, which will be held on Friday, December 13 at Constant Spring.

"We want to exceed $1.5m; we are short of our target of $2.5m, but we have another couple of days to go, so we hope that we get a few more sponsors on board so we can attain our target," Nigel Davy, chairman of the 2013 SANTA organising committee and president elect of the Constant Spring Golf Club, shared.
Title sponsor, CB Facey Foundation, has stepped up to the plate in a major way, as through their pledge programme, they will provide additional opportunities for players, spectators and corporate entities to contribute on an ongoing basis.
