DIGICEL KICKSTART CLINICS GET OFF TO GREAT START

Wednesday 1^st April 2015 – Kingston, Jamaica

The Digicel Kickstart Clinics are off to a great start and according to Senior International Football Development Office and Digicel Kickstart Clinics Head Coach, David Monk, the talent continues to impress in the Caribbean.

Following the grassroots football programme launch for 2015 in Barbados, the Chelsea FC Foundation coaches made their way to Bermuda where they hosted the island’s best footballing talent for an intense two-day session and out of it, they were able to select three boys who they felt would represent their country well at the Digicel Academy to be held later this year.

Regarding the performance of the boys at the Clinics David said; “We are happy to be back in the Caribbean to see the great improvements that have taken place with youth football and to see some of the boys we worked with previously and how they have developed since the last time we were here. Those who participate in the Digicel Kickstart Clinics have a great opportunity to show their potential and take their game to the next level.  Football can open doors for the participants in careers and further education and that’s what we aim to achieve through this programme.”

15 year old T’ai Williams was selected as the Wild Card Pick

At the end of the Clinics, the boys selected to represent Bermuda at the Digicel Academy are:  15 year old Enyche Zuill, 14 year old Andrew Kempe and 15 year old Omar Wilson. Also selected was 15 year old T’ai Williams as the Wild Card pick.

When asked if he has seen any stand out players, he had this to say; “We definitely had a number of quality players at the Clinics but one player, Enyche Zuill, rose above his colleagues and was a strong standout attacking, creative and expressive player who we would absolutely love to see at Chelsea. His ability level and personality was fantastic and a big credit to Bermuda for producing a player of his calibre. He is a testament to the quality that is evident in the Caribbean.”

Also, as part of their visit, the coaches played a game of football with the Special Olympics athletes to pass on some skills of the game and encourage them to continue on their path to success.

The two-day clinics gave the aspiring young footballers an opportunity to improve their game and learn valuable lessons on and off the pitch
